If Your Kid Is Fat, Are You To Blame?
If a kid is overweight and his parents don't do enough to trim him down, should they be charged with neglect? That's what happened in Scotland. Local authorities took 7 children away from a couple, claiming the fat kids were at risk because the parents weren't doing enough to help the kids slim down. Similar cases are happening in the U.S.. A South Carolina mom lost custody of her 14 year old son who weighed 555 pounds. Other cases have been reported in California, Texas, and New York. 1/3 of kids in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Are parents to blame? Research says nearly 1/2 of parents of overweight kids, don't perceive their kids as fat.
